I was never a big “affirmations” person- found it a tad woo-woo. However, I seem to stumble over the suggested practice everywhere- books, articles, blogs.
Finally I gave an affirmation practice a real try- I liked a certain presenter, he seemed convinced of their merit. “Do them every day for a month” He said, “Then you will begin to feel some changes.”
I gave it a week.
It was the very last day where I found a benefit. I was going along my day, trying to get things done, and out of thin air- some negative mind talk arrived (ever have that happen?)
And instead of the usual chatter-fest, one of those affirmations spoke up.
I can do this.
Not like a yell or an all powerful Moses voice- sort of conversational and casual like. Very friendly with a no-nonsense tone.
I returned to tasks in peace. And just like that- I changed my mind.
Affirmations can work- if they mean something to you. I also think they need to be simple and accessible- so they can be recalled in a time of need.
Try saying them once in the morning, yes, every day for a while. And then just see what happens.
Here are a few to inspire you, or write your own.
Affirmations for your pocket:
I can do this. I am capable. I can handle this. I feel great. I like my work. I like my body. I look great. Everything is good. My life is wonderful.
